It's not a card making question but I hope someone out there can help. I need to put a zip in a pair of jeans. Is it possible to do it by hand or would I be better doing it with a machine?
I'm getting desperate as my jeans are being held together with bootlace at the moment...

Think you might be able to hand sew them but it would be a bit hard on the fingers. Think i'd rather have them sewn by machine

I've done a lot of dressmaking and even a bit of tayloring in my time. A new zip can be hand sewn. If you use a machine you must use a zipper foot. This is one job which I would tack first before machining. If you are a novice with a machine or don't have a zipper foot then you would be better to hand sew the new one in place.

I found a place in the village that would do it for a reasonable fee so I'll have some new jeans by the weekend

No i'm rubbish with a sewing machine. Did have one years ago but only made curtains

I am useless at sewing of any description...needles and I are not friends (lots of blood usually) and thread and I just get in a tangled mess (not pretty!). Glad you found someone to help.

I can sew, embroider and cross-stitch though it's a while since I've done any of them, particularly involving the sewing machine, which was used as a doorstop to stop the cats getting into the understairs cupboard where their food was kept. That was until I came downstairs one morning and found the sewing machine in the middle of the living room floor...
